UNDERSTOREY

Only 2% of global philanthropic and investment capital goes toward nature-based solutions, despite their critical role in addressing climate and biodiversity crises. Understorey is reshaping climate and nature-focused investment to accelerate a regenerative future.

BACKGROUND

Understorey is an impact investment company funding visionary solutions to the climate and nature crises. MEK was engaged to build a brand from the ground up that reflects this mission and communicates its ambition to restore planetary health.

]

The strategic foundation of the brand was developed from the dual focus of micro/nature and macro/climate—from anthocyanins in forest understoreys to Earth’s interconnected climate subsystems. This concept shaped the visual and verbal identities, including a brand mark referencing natural and planetary symbols supported by a design system based on ecological relationships.

The new brand positions Understorey as a distinctive leader in climate and nature-focused investment. It disrupts the impact investment category with a story-driven, impactful identity synonymous with innovation yet differentiated in the B2B nature and climate space. It reinforces the company’s values and supports its specialised focus areas spanning biosphere, food systems, circular economy, environmental data, and sustainable cities.

We live and work on the unceded stolen lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin nation. We recognise their continuing connection to culture, land, waters and community, and pay respects to Elders past and present. We acknowledge there is no climate justice without First Peoples justice. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
